Today we watched a documentary on Zheng He called "Emperor of the Seas."  Students had to take notes that support their argument of whether Zheng He's voyages should be celebrated or not.  There is no homework over break, please enjoy your time with family and friends.

Sorry for the gap in posts, I was out with a sick kid for a couple of days.  Tonight there is no homework, however we just started our first DBQ activity on Zheng He and his voyages.  Students will be given a few primary documents and will be asked to analyze and complete a corresponding written assignment.  Please watch for updates.

Students are working on test corrections and flashcards from chapter 3 test.  Due to low scores, everyone will be retaking the chapter 3 test on Monday, November 4, 2013.  I will inout the higher of the two test scores.  Students need to get there test signed and bring it back tomorrow.

Today we are finishing up the vocabulary for ch. 3-2/3-3.  The words are Swahili, matrilineal, oral history, and extended family.  For each word, students need to complete the Frayer model and illustrate the definition.

Chapter 3 Geography Challenge

Chapter 2 Reflection and Chapter 2 Test

Today students are reflecting on the lessons, their learning, and work from chapter 2.  Tomorrow we will begin chapter 3 Medieval Africa.  Chapter 2 test scores will be in Illuminate by the end of the day tomorrow.  If you have any questions, please email or call me.

Today's Test

Today students are taking their first test.  It is a combination of multiple-choice and short answer and is worth 75 points.  Grades should be up within the next week in Illuminate.

Muslim Achievements

Today we are looking at the lasting contributions of the Islamic Empire.  The Q-notes for today can be found here.  Tonight's homework directions are shown below and the lesson's PPT can be found here.

Periods 1, 4-6 Venn Diagram Assignment

Students created a chart comparing Islam, Judaism, and Christianity.  For their left-side assignment, they need to complete the assignment below based on the chart they created in class.

Today's left-sided assignment

Below is an example of today's left-sided assignment.  Students do not need to draw the Quran, this is just an example.  They need to have a minimum of 5 descriptions in their circle map and a minimum of 3 effects that the Quran has on Muslims' daily lives.

Lesson: Quran and Sunna

Today's Learning Objective: I will describe the teachings, laws, and customs of the Quran and Sunna.

The Five Pillars of Islam

Today we explored the Five Pillars of Islam and their importance to the Islamic faith.  Students took Q-notes and created pictures or flashcards to help them remember the Five Pillars.  The Q-notes can be found here.

Chapter 2-1 - The Rise of Islam

Interactive Notebook Guidelines and Rubric

Frayer Model Vocabulary

This year we will be using the Frayer Model for vocabulary.  Students will work in the text in order to complete the worksheet.  If your student loses the worksheet, one can be found here.

Interactive Notebooks

Today we assembled our interactive notebooks.  Please make sure that your student brings it to school everyday and that they have a glue stick in order to stay up-to-date with the material.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

Chapter 2 - Islamic CIvilization

Today we began chapter 2 with a Geography Challenge.  We looked closely at the geographical makeup of the Middle East.  The map that we worked with can be found here.

Welcome

It is my pleasure to welcome you to 7th grade world history. This year we are going to be taking a journey through several different cultures during the medieval and modern time periods. I want each student's learning experience to be filled with discovery, enrichment, and fun. I have a class syllabus that will be hand out in class and accessible through this link also. I have high expectations for all of my students, which I have outlined in the Classroom Expectations that I will hand out in class and which is also accessible through this link.
